Sis was calm about the whole thing too. In fact we are just a pretty laid back crew. We saw one mom dragging her daughter across main street, screaming at her because she had done something embarrassing. The mom kept saying "How could you do this to me?". I felt bad for the little girl and her ruined Easter. I'm trying not to be a screamer.

Easter 2012
We went to the city's Easter Egg Hunt for the first time this year. Z couldn't figure out why everyone was screaming. There were plenty of eggs to go around. He calmly picked up half a dozen and then he was done. He treasures them, he won't eat the candy- just saving it up.

Zealand
My baby boy is 4 years old. What the what??? He swims with out me now.
This was from last years swim lessons, where he learned so much and became so confident in the water, that, the next time we went to the lake he went out too far and I had to go in and fetch him.
He knows songs that I didn't teach him, he often tries to teach them to me.
He likes to make faces and he likes to take pictures. Here are some silly faces for you Zealand...

I say every age is my favorite, but good gravy this one is awesome.

Random
I love the aquatic center in our town. Somehow, we always manage to get there just a somebody poops in the pool. This was Charlotte's first time swimming. They kicked us out of the main pool while they cleaned and the lap pool was freezing- poor kid, she sat there just long enough for me to snap a photo of her in her swimsuit.

This was Zealand's first time roller skating. He had a ball, and I got a major workout trying to keep him on his feet.

I'm so glad legwarmers are back. I kept one from the eighties (yes one, I lost the match) because I loved it so much- it serves no purpose except to make me smile when I open my sock drawer.
July 4th & Christmas 2011
Zealand is the age that makes Chrismas so fun. He would open a gift and be so amazed with it that he couldn't be persuaded to open anymore. He got the hang of it before the day was done though. We got a camera for Christmas and had so much fun snapping pics, it's hard to narrow them down.

These pics taken just before Charlotte was born, and I love them. We did fireworks in our driveway almost everyday during July.

Conversations with Zealand
At bedtime, Zealand gave Daddy a "look" Daddy went over and asked Z. "Hey buddy, do you need something?" An extremely serious look followed, after a brief pause the very serious..."Yes." Daddy then asked. "What do you need?" another lengthy pause and then Z answers "I need to read my books...by myself!" and then motions to the door with his eyes. Daddy got the hint and left the boy alone.
Conversation #2.
Daddy and Z were out for a drive, and sometimes a treat is just in order. Daddy and Z pulled up to a drive through and Daddy ordered a kids root beer. From the backseat is yelled.. "And Daddy wants a medium cherry coke." Z knows his Daddy well.

Who's the Boss?
Today Zealand said "I can watch Nemo downstairs! You (pointing to his Daddy) can ask Mom." (While both his Mom & Dad were standing there together)

Charlotte
I was probably in some stage of labor the whole day. I would sit on the floor and play with Z and there I would stay until he absolutely needed me somewhere else. I desperately wanted someone to be there with Z and I but I didn't want Jeff to start his time off work until Charlotte was born. With tears in my eyes I would dial someone who could come over and then hang up because I didn't want them to see me all weepy and pathetic. What was I going to say, "I'm not a good enough mom today, can you come over and fill in?" Like I said, I think I was in labor. This is how things make sense when you're in labor.
I had a contraction at 4pm. By 9pm when my water broke I had had 6 or 7. After the water broke I got in the shower and stayed there for a good 45 minutes. I was so cold. I just stayed there consuming HOT water and trying to think through the next hours, the next months. Was I ready? Finally, after several attempts, Jeff convinced me that I needed to go to the hospital.
It was really fast. It hurt just as much as my first labor. All the same things happened to me. But faster. Also, I had a fever. NO WONDER I was so cold. The fever got hotter at the hospital. They gave me extra fluids to bring the fever down. The fever was caused by an infection in the amniotic fluid. It is called chorioamnionitis. They said I had to have the baby soon.
Jeff coached me and I couldn't have done it drug-free without him. Thanks, Honey. Really.
My feet felt like ice the entire labor. I didn't ask for socks because they were trying to cool me and keep Charlotte from distress. At this point it had occurred to me that I should be worried. I wasn't very worried though. Maybe because I was just too busy. I just asked Jeff: He was pretty worried.
She was born at 12:51am- nine minutes before my wacky deadline and with plenty of time to avoid serious complications from the chorioamnionitis. We didn't get many pictures because she was only with us for about 20 minutes before they took her to the nursery to have antibiotics.Charlotte stayed in the nursery the first 48 hours and then she got to be in my room the last night and day we were in the hospital. When they first brought her to me, I held her and she hooked her jaw sideways like Bill Murray and rolled her eyes back in her head. I laughed so hard that I was bouncing her all over. Eventually I had to turn away so I could stop laughing. These pictures don't do the face justice.

When I was pregnant, I pictured her with dark hair. I know, I know, my water-color abilities are "amazing"- still, I think my picture is pretty close to reality.Purple is her color. She got my thumbs which are a lot cuter on her. When she was 4 days old, she clicked her tongue so I clicked mine. Now she clicks her tongue when she wants to be fed.
